So what is the problem, he was legal wasn't he? If anything the only thing he did wrong was speeding. But come to think of it they should ban construction zones since that was the root cause of the crash. Isn't that the American way? Something happens pass a law, something else happens pass another law.........

With 23 minutes left on his 14hr clock - would he have easily made Perth Amboy from the accident site - ??

No. It's at least 30 minutes at regular highway speeds, not to mention traffic lights.

Just curious, since I have not been on that road in many years.

Were there any options available to park that he could have reached?

That's what doesn't make any sense, why he left for Perth Amboy in the first place. He left his previous stop with like an hour on his 14. Based on the distance he had to travel in that time no wonder why he was plowing along at 65mph in a construction zone. If he did the speed limit he would have went over his HOS. He should have just shut down for the night before even leaving his prior stop, or gone to the nearest safe place if he couldn't park there.

People can argue against the rigid nature of HOS rules, and I agree they are ridiculous. But when by law you have to operate under HOS rules as they are currently written, you have to make the adjustments to make sure you are operating in a safe manner.

Just letting you all know. The National Transportation Safety Board or NTSB investigates all crashes whether the investigation makes the news or not. These crashes they include Trucks, Buses, Trains, planes, helicopters, etc. Anything that is not a car that hauls stuff basically. Hope this helps.
