I was west bound and we were stopped for about 45 minutes. I assume for CareFlight (or whatever it's called out west) Things looked pretty bad for those involved. I think there was a mini van or SUV that was all torn up. The wind was blowing pretty good today so viz could have been a factor. Or the lack of fresh air because someone had their head up their anal orifice

I drives me nuts when the media blames the weather for a crash. The story starts with, "A dust storm may have caused a multi-vehicle crash involving 10 big rigs and four sedans". It was probably excessive speed and following too close, especially in these conditions, that caused the collisions. Muppets is right!

And here we have someone who has never lost traction on icy roads.

Well now there really isnt anywhere in the Lonestar you can run 90 legally--but there are places where 90 in the Hammer lane--might get you a ticket for impeding traffic flow--LOL

Try comprehending my post first. BTW, if you break traction on an icy road, its time to slow down. If it's so bad you cannot maintain traction, it's time to stop. Dont blame the road or weather conditions if you end up in the ditch. I guarandamedtee you the investigating agency will assign "Unsafe speed for conditions" as the Primary Collision Factor (PCF). The road and weather conditions are an Associated Factor (AF). The PCF is the "cause" of the collision, not the AF.

I've run many tens of thousands of miles on snow and ice in the last 17 years OTR, so yes i know what it's like to break traction.

Let me add one thing: A sudden gust of wind blowing a truck over would be one example of the few times where weather caused the collision. The at-fault determining factor is usually lies with whether the condition was pre-existing or not. Each state will have it's own guidlines on determining fault. My law enforcement experience is with California.
