These trailers are basically "stressed boxes" like aircraft wings.. if one of the edges of the boxes is damaged or gets over stressed... it will fail. Being as these trailers are made of a whole bunch of smaller pieces,, when they fold.. they fold.

HA, looks like someone tried to haul 2 loads in 1 trailer. I'd bet there was 100K lbs. in that wagon. Many years ago, i was trucking through Chicago, traffic comes to a stop near the "spaghetti bowl" (loop), finally I get up to the "obstruction", there's all this road gravel all over the road, but no dump truck, get up a little farther, here's a van trailer with the floor broken out of it and road gravel from the road to bottom of the trailer. Somebody filled this van trailer with road gravel and the floor let go. Bet that was a heavy load too.:biggrin_2559:

Seen that happen a couple of times now. Watched a guy one night at the J just east of buffalo fighting to drag one into the parking lot that had broken it's back dead center like that. Had to wonder how far he drug it like that before he got it there

In '77 was taking a break at a rest stop in California. All of a sudden "BOOM!" A trailer full of watermelons collapsed just as it was entering the rest area.

    They were really GOOD watermelons.
