I love those lights! "prepare to stop when flashing" what a concept. I do however see the point of the critics. RIP to the deceased, always the guy just minding his own business.

Driver inattention, plain and simple.
There is no sharp curve at that location. It is on a gradual curve, but the traffic light is visible for at least 1000'. And there are signs/lights before the intersection, telling you to prepare to stop.
55 MPH speed limit, but the lights are set to allow a vehicle to transit the intersection if they are doing the speed limit.pattyj Thanks this. -
Ohio is crazy once you get off the interstates. Left turn lanes at intersections, protected left green light arrows, and center turn lane roads are practically non-existent all across Ohio on any 2-lane road.

600 accidents since 2010 seem like one hell of a lot, something needs to be done in that area. As for the "Prepare To Stop" signs, there are a few of those here in the Anchorage area, they are set such that if you see it flashing you had better stop because you will not make the light, essentially, those signs mean STOP, and there is ample room to do so.

Doesn't Werner have dashcams?
58 and driving for Werner, I bet he just got his CDL recently.
One of those "I'll be a paid tourist until I retire" types. Just a guess on my part. -
Also, if there's been 600 accidents in that area there's definitely an issue with the traffic engineering department there, and it need to be resolved NOW. Colorado is quite like that; nothing gets corrected for safer unless a dead body makes it into the record books to have it happen-then the government feels it needs to be addressed. -

Very sad when these things happen. ..Semi Crazy Thanks this. -
Hi PP, I think every state is like that, deal with it after the fact. I know with bike aprons in Wis.are a big issue. There will be a bike accident, and a big outcry, HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN? And it's so easy to put a bike apron on a 2 lane. I guess, in traffic planning, the right hand isn't aware of what the left hand is doing.
It just never ceases to amaze me, and is vastly mind blowing, that a lot of people never think ahead for a situation like that. Consider our training here, we train immensely in the safety department, for just that, and it prevents a lot of issues by being aware of them. If only more people were aware of safety, their surroundings, and not relying on a set of brakes, or a traffic light."semi" retired and pattyj Thank this. -
