Saw this on the news the other day. Looks like cars were stopped at a light and the Werner driver came up behind them and just plowed into them. Really terrible situation overall. Prayers to the families.

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ohio -Two people were killed and several were injured in a four-vehicle crash on U.S. 23 at state Route 229 in Delaware County.
According to troopers from the Delaware post of the Ohio State Highway patrol, the crash occurred at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Troopers tell NBC4 a 1997 Kia Rondo, driven by 51-year-old Sanjay Dhall, of Canton, Michigan, and a 2014 Ford Escape, driven by 69-year-old Curtis Dixon, of Howell, Michigan, were stopped at a red light in the southbound lanes of U.S. 23 at S.R. 229 (Norton Road).
Randall G. Lee, 58, of Christiana, Tennessee, was driving a 2010 International semi in the southbound lanes of U.S. 23 when he failed to stop for traffic at the red light, crashing into the back of the Ford. The Ford then crashed into the back of the Kia. Both vehicles were forced into the median located on the left side of the roadway, according to troopers. The Kia then overturned onto its top.
The semi then rolled into the intersection, striking a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 55-year-old Lewis Fisher, of Marengo, that was traveling eastbound on S.R. 229.
The Chevrolet truck was forced off of the southwest corner of the intersection where it came to rest.
Dixon and his passenger, Patricia Dixon, 71, of Howell, Michigan, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers.
Dhall was transported by a Delaware County medic to The Ohio State University Werner Center to be treated. He was listed in stable condition, according to troopers.
Fisher was transported by a Delaware County medic to Grant Medical Center. His passenger, Sandra Whitley, 70, of Ashley, was air-lifted by MedFlight to Grant Medical Center.
Lee and his passenger, Bobby Macera, 48, of Charlotte, Florida were treated and released at the scene by Delaware County medic personnel.
Lee was arrested at the scene of the crash by troopers. He was transported to the Delaware County Jail.
Lee is charged with failure to stop within an assured clear distance ahead, and two counts of vehicular homicide.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Curtis and Patricia Dixon were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to troopers.
The roadway was closed during the investigation and clean-up. All lanes of traffic were reopened by 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The crash is the fourth fatal crash on U.S. 23 since 2010.
There have been 600 crashes with injuries on U.S. 23 in Delaware since 2010, and 20 occurred near the intersection with S.R. 229.

Anyone know the speed limit approaching that light? If 50 mph or more you don't get much room to stop once you come around that turn.

Leave room and get into a gear with higher rpm's when approaching a light with jake on high. Gives a bit more stopping power if you need to slow in a hurry.

Are there any flashing warning lights about the approaching traffic control device prior to the intersection?
Sounds to me like its time for some increased warning signage.

I believe, from reading the linked article, that this intersection was one that had those "Prepare to Stop When Flashing" signs disabled. Apparently there were too many rear-end crashes, presumably due to some in the "back of the pack" anticipating those in front would roll on through, or just trying to beat the light.

Danged if you do, danged if you don't. That stretch of 23 warrants additional care by all drivers.

Hi misterG, Is it Minnesota that has those signs and lights, "Be prepared to stop"?
It's not fair to pick on any one company in these situations. Obviously, from all the accidents posted here, it doesn't matter what company the driver is from. I tell everyone I know, keep an eye on the rear-view, and leave a little space, in case someone isn't stopping.

BTW, misterG,(forgive me,all, for asking this here) where you from in N.Wis.? I have friends in Phillips and Park Falls and hope to retire up there.

    I'm not 100%, but I do believe it's a 55mph zone.

    This.

Just found another article mentioning this.

Yeah, MN does have those signs. I like them, they give me a little notice if the light is going to change. So I can begin slowing\stopping.
Even a few WI, intersections have them, but many are going to roundabouts.

    Sent you a PM.

This could be anybody out here... Now this driver will be facing years in prison for trying to do his job...Who knows exactly what he was doing that caused this? Could be something medically that has not yet been reported, dont jump to conclusions. Sad situation for all involved....

According to comments on the article from people who live in the area the speed limit is 60mph...

And also according to the article since 2010 there has been 600 accidents with injuries in this area.... Obviously something needs to be done to make this roadway safer
