Always hurts to see a fellow biker die from an accident.

Loos like the truck is doing an illegal U turn too, smh.

Yep, sold my bike after a few close calls here in Atlanta. Too many people don't care.

As to the u-turn. I remember, CRST had an immediate termination if you were caught making one.

Nothing illegal about that u-turn, aside from #3 of course, depending upon how entitled you believe the motorcyclist was. Best guess based on that picture was the intersection just South of the one quoted in the article as "near," Lenox at Ferncliff. There are not any "no u-turn" signs posted (on Google street view). I won't, however, argue for that being a good place to pull a u-turn. It's not, depending on the time of day. It's a very congested retail district bordering on a residential area.

A better option would have been to hug the curb and obstruct the right lane for 5 minutes with the flashers on and figure out a safer alternative versus a u-turn "right now." Plenty of alternate routes exist to avoid a u-turn at that location.

I also question the (dead) guy on the motorcycle for either not paying attention or going too fast to notice a semi-truck and trailer across the road. That intersection is not hidden by any hills or curves within a half a block, and the posted speed limit is 35 mph. Judging by the plastic scattered around the truck's drives on the inside of the articulating rig, it's not like it was a near miss. Don't get it twisted, I ride a motorcycle too, and sorry for the motorcyclist's family's loss. However, I seriously doubt that truck just instantaneously flopped itself across the road any more than an attentive motorcyclist riding at the speed limit wouldn't have noticed it in their way.

Bad judgement by both drivers. Unfortunately, only the one wearing a protective steel cage survived. Usually how it goes with crashes on a motorcycle.

Just saw on ch 5 news, truck driver has been charged. They didn't say for what, nor did a quick search turn anything up. Probably the u-turn code #3 I mentioned above. Seems the c-store clerk getting shot in the head execution style, and the guy that caught a wannabe home invader in the act on camera are more interesting stories than this one today.

I heard the truck crashed and ended up straddling the roadway, then the biker crashed into the truck in the dark (I was kind of listening to Fox news this morning from another room and that's what I thought I heard)
