Today around 7pm ET I was driving on 270 south west bypass of Columbus, OH when a four wheeler dark blue or black Ford escort driven by a black male in his 30' made a crushal mistake that faced him with the death for couple seconds. I have got so lucky to save his life and mine too. The driver was driving in the right lane around 150 yards in front of me, I was in the midddle lane driving with 60 on 65 when he did not paying attention on the road at all. There was no car in front of him and he did not see a dry branches of a tree that was in the middle of his lane probably felt from a landscaping truck. I think he was playing with the phone or texting I cannot tell with sure. Guess what easily he could run them over but he got panic and decided to brake so his car skid almost flipped over and made a 360 degree that end up facing my truck in my lane. Honestly I saw his eyes and face watching me that I will crash straight face to face to him, he was very scared - me too but tried to stay calm. I now that in some other situation I will keep my steering wheel straight and run it over, but here with the human life I decided to put my life in danger. I was 76 000 gross - Double stack pallets, driving on foot pedal with 60, engine brake ON - ofcourse when I saw the branches I did predicted that something can happen and tried to slow down as much as I could but was not enough. There is no time for mirrors /check your mirrors all the time guys/ good memory that I knew where are the cars around me and made my choice to swing very emergency hard to the left lane, nobody was there and very hard kept control of my truck. I dont have words to express how all this very dramatic situation happen, but I am very thankfull that I did not kill that guy, I did not die and did not flipped over my truck. After that a Box Truck from the back of the company Liberty Transportation approched me on my right side - two guys that saw everything with their thumbs up to thank me for the avoiding a fatal crushal accident situation. They were clapping hands of victory, my legs were still shaking. At least I had witnesses. Thank you God and God bless you all drivers and their families!

I am sorry I had no dashcam :((( very very important - first thing that I will buy next week. Please guys be safe out there!!!

Well played sir. On the bright side of things I guess you managed to teach that guy a lesson on distracted driving's perils. But as you pointed out this is exactly the situation a dashcam is perfect for. Of course it can't help you save a life but it can bear witness to others' stupidity (and save your hide on occasion). I'm seriously considering putting together a youtube channel that consists of my dashcam footage... it never surprises me how crazy/irresponsible/stupid some of the folks are that I deal with every day on the road.

    Well done, CellNet!

It's been said that your most important stop is when you make it home.

I don't believe that for a moment. The most important stops are when everyone else around me makes it home. The way I figure it I have a much better chance of making it home if everyone else does too.

Great anticipation of the situation helped save that gentleman's life.

God was watching over both of you. I bet he had a come to Jesus moment there too.

That's why I'm always monitoring other lanes (as escape routes), not to steal any of your thunder, it saves lives when there's no time for second guessing a situation.

Good job, driver, we can tell by your wording, you still must be shook up about it, and in a way, it's good, you know what can happen. Hopefully, if nothing else, this person has learned to pay attention while driving. It's a shame, that's what it takes for these people. I don't think he wanted to die, just hadn't been in that situation before, and now he knows. Some aren't so lucky, and that one instant DOES cost them dearly. You can post all the videos you want, and people still think, it can't happen to me.
As a small sidebar, I don't think God or Jesus had anything to do with this. You are a trained professional, and were alert to a situation happening, and took evasive action. I don't mean to start a religious argument, but where was God or Jesus the other week when that Werner truck killed those poor people in Ohio? Sorry, I just don't buy that.

I think 4 wheelers are clueless on how close they come to killing themselves on any given day. Funny how we manage to avoid catastrophes on a daily basis, yet earn only pennies and #1 salutes for the effort...
