[h=1]Update: 18-wheeler involved in crash on I-10 is carrying hazardous materials[/h]I-10 is shut down at mile marker 85 in Acadia Parish in both directions (between Crowley and Rayne) due to a crash involving hazardous materials. Troopers say westbound traffic on I-10 will be detoured at I-49 in Lafayette Parish to Highway 190. Eastbound drivers should take Highway 1111 to Highway 90, then detour to LA 35. There is no estimated timetable on when it will be open.
Troopers say the driver of a pickup truck ran into the back of an 18-wheeler carrying Sodium Hydrosulfide. It's a liquid corrosive, which is poisonous, and it is leaking from the truck. Troopers call it a small leak. Two minor injuries were reported.

What is it about Louisiana?

Along the Gulf Coast from Mobile to Galveston is the highest concentration of refineries and chemical plants probably in the world. Louisiana has welcomed those industries for many moons. Sooo it stands to reason there will be more hazmat accidents, both truck and rail...
