I have been offering to move to a safer. less traveled area ( get off ramp , parking lot, etc. ) lately when I have been stopped. Tell them I will agree to signing that I was stopped in original place, if that makes a difference, but feel safer if we get away from traffic. So far, all have agreed, one with a smile. It ain't safe to conduct an inspection along a busy road.

I do the same. Last time I was stopped the officer wanted to do a level 2 right there on the shoulder. I asked him if we could pull onto the ramp at the next exit and he seemed confused. I then told him I did not feel safe here on the side of the road and he agreed. I can't understand how some law enforcement actually feel safe on the shoulder?

i have never understood why DOT pull trucks over in the most dangerous places. Secondly, I ve been pulled over and ask to step out of the truck to talk face to face to a trooper. I always stood on the passenger side of the truck and talked to the trooper just in case situations like these arise. The motoring public these days and most people in general, everything is about them. I m wondering why the driver in the pickup didn t see the trooper ahead, check their mirrors, and either moved over or slowed down if they couldn t move over

I think the key to it is stating you do not feel safe there. Can you imagine the law suit if you were injured after telling the officer you did not feel safe and offering to move ? DOT put me OOS in a real back-woods area area, told him I did not feel safe ( really no problem ). He escorted me to civilization, then put me OOS, and told me they are not allowed to leave a citizen who is not safe.Been using that trick ever since.

We work a lot with law enforcement, they tell people, if you're being pulled over, pull to a safe place, if you do want to pull to a ramp, put on your 4 ways and slow down and proceed to a safe spot.

I don't think any officer would be upset unless you drive 10 miles.

I started to read some of the comments, then just decided to slam my head in the door of my truck, it made more sense and was less painful.

Don't quit your day job. Save your stupid joke for some other part of this board. This was a thread about a traffic incident, not for moronic jokes.

I've always been opposed to State Troopers or anyone other than a specific DoT officer doing inspections. You don't know if the local leo has the correct training to do the inspection in the first place, and also I don't like that they are doing it just for the sake of finding something to write a ticket for. Not only are they taking a driver's hard earned money, but they are putting points on his CSA score. Its just wrong. Chicken Coops have room to do inspections there, so they should all be done there and not on the side of the interstate. I have a client right now that won't take loads that either pick up or deliver to Arizona because he's tired of all the inspections he has to go through there.

I was pulled over for a roadside inspection in Arizona during their Operation Proctologist. The trooper lit me up about 3/4 mile from an exit ramp. The shoulder was barely wide enough to get maybe 3"-8" over the fog line if I pulled over on the shoulder. I elected to hit the 4-ways and proceeded to a nice wide pull off up the exit ramp.

The trooper read me the riot act, asking me why I didn't immediately pull over. Told her I wanted a safe place. Her response was, "If I light you up I already determined it's a safe place!"
