I saw this the other day. i70 west bound. Near Colby Ks IIRC.

Truck had his left rear ripped out and wiggle had right side of his trailers ripped apart.

I dont know the facts or how it happened. I can only assume first truck was parked on the shoulder,.. it was gusty,.. wiggle wagon,.. wiggled a little too much to the right and this was the result.

I dont know the situation,.. but there was an off ramp not even 2 mi up the road. Unless my truck wont move or I'm about to lose my load and have no choice,.. you'll never see me on the shoulder.

So if he broke down, and you don't want him to park on the shoulder/ break down lane. Where do you want them to park? In the travel lane?
The shoulder is suppose to be used for break downs and emergencies.
Now i will go out on a limb, and say it sounds like the other truck didn't move over to the left lane, because he couldn't safely do so, or could care less.
If you can't move over to the left lane, when some one is on the shoulder, SLOWDOWN...... Make sure you have your 4 way flashers on , and your triangles.

Don't you remember your CDL handbook from when you were getting your license? If you break down you are suppose to park the truck in the opposing traffic lane, even if you have to cross the median to do it. You'll get a pat on the back and a free tow if you manage to limp the tractor to a truck stop, and park it sideways across several fuel lanes. Points will be deducted from your CSA score if this is done during the times the truck stop is really busy.

It's definitely a bad idea to pull on the shoulder unless you have to BUT there really isn't any good excuses for the wiggle wagon to hit him. It doesn't look like a minor bump, he took a chunk out so he either wasn't paying attention or didn't even try to hug the center line if he couldn't get over.

Sounds like another "I'm too stoopid to slow down or pull over!" Hope that jerk loses his job. I hate guys who won't move over. One almost killed me in OK wehn I had an emergency. Cow got her foot out the side panel on a trailer. I stepped down and had about 2 inches between me and Angels.

Did you read more then my title?

    Here,.. I'll help you.

I dont know the situation,.. you see what I saw.

How many trucks do we pass everyday and especially at night, parked on the shoulder,.. inches or less to the roadway. No triangles, often no flashers on either,.. and what is the guy/gal doing? Majority I see have interior light on and are reading or doing something on the steering wheel. Map? Texting? Email? Facebook? Sexting? I dunno,.. but in any event,.. its the wrong place to do that.

My title was "Dont PARK On the Shoulder". Said nothing about breaking down or an emergency. Parking,.. as in pulling over and stopping your truck purposely for a personal reason. Not truck or mechanical reason.

I see that all the time and I turn my head because if anything bad happens,.. I dont want to see it.

I do my best to find an off ramp or shoulder where I can be at least 2 - 3 feet or more from the roadway. I do not like stopping on the shoulder for that very reason. Its not me I worry about,.. its the other drivers not paying attention.

I had strong head winds pretty much the entire way from Kansas City on up into Denver. So its possible the wiggle wagon caught a strong gust and his wagon did what they do best. When I passed the tractor, I saw no damage. If there was it was minor and I didnt see it. Trailers were ripped open like a sardine can.

Thats true,.. and I meant to say merge ramp,.. aka on ramp. Thats where I like to park when nature calls and I cant find a spot or I need to check my load after hitting bumps.

your stating a lost cause, hurst.

intelligence in trucking went by by. a LONG time ago.

i cut my delivery 2 hours short tonight, as i got tired of the stupid games you all like to play. called leap frog.
i set my cruise control. and drive at a constant speed. but i guess the rest of you can't handle that simple concept. just gotta play that stupid game of slow, fast, slow, fast.
