Exactly. Hammer!! I used the term new breed because we have so many who want an automatic truck, a gps to get them to their destination. 40 or less hours of work, and $70,000. Also could you not give me a drug test, because I may have fallen into a kilo of cocaine, and everybody at the party was smoking wacky tabacky. That darn second hand smoke.
Hammer166, drvrtech77, 77smartin and 1 other person Thank this. -
I ran into a Central driver the other day at a "T" in the road by a major food production facility. I was on my way home and taking the backroads. He was lost so I pull up beside him and ask which way he is going to turn. He looks at the QC and says "this thing tells me to go left...I hate this thing". Told him the best way to get back to the interstate was to go back the way he came in...which wasn't right or left...it was behind him. I did offer to take him through the country and get him back to the interstate but a quick glance at the road conditions and he politely declined.
If he had gone left he most certainly would of slid into a ditch if he made it over the "bridge"...he had a better chance of making it if he went right, but a slide off into a ditch would of happened...maybe.
He didn't strike me as being stupid...actually he presented himself well and I could tell was eager for the right information and accepting of the help.
I bring this up because I thought about him being told by this mega carrier to follow the GPS directions on the QC, quickly followed up by the consequences if he didn't. If he was empowered to rely on himself to make decisions I don't think he would of been in the situation...that or proper training.Giggles the Original and Hammer166 Thank this. -
That driver's GPS did not "tell him" to continue straight on Sunbury St - that would have been a serious error by the routing algorithm. Continuing straight leads to a deadend in a residential area. The driver became confused when presented with a slight turn to the right to remain on PA-61. He made the wrong turn, and then compounded the error with some really bad decisions that created a catastrophe. Its obvious that his training was lacking, and he was in over his head. He also doesn't have the balls to man-up, and take responsibility for his mistakes.

I don't even think the mega carriers would say that. Its just we get in a hurry and don't double check to make sure the route is right. The navigo in my truck has been on the money for the most part. Until I got an Ingles distribution in blackhills, NC. I have been there b4 but never came from the west. Always from the east. I seen it on my left from the interstate. Navigo was saying to take next exit and make a right. I'm like ok maybe the road curves around. So I made the right and then seen a big sign saying trucks over 40feet not advised. I was coming to a fork in road and took that because the sign also said no place to turn around after you past that point. That fork took me to highway 70 which is what Ingles is on. I'm still not sure where the heck that thing had me going. If I would have checked. Before hand. I would have never been in that situation.
