Newbie Trucker Destroys Home, Stop Sign And Fence, Hits Motorist; Says GPS At Fault
THE TRUCKER NEWS SERVICES
SHAMOKIN, Pa. A Philadelphia truck driver who is accused of destroying a home at Rock and Kase streets in Shamokin, Pa., along with other property and vehicles earlier in December was charged with several driving offenses Dec. 15, 2014.
Rasan L. Tyler-Davis, 28, was charged by Shamokin Police Chief Darwin Tobias III with two misdemeanor counts of accidents involving damage to attended vehicles or property and summary offenses of two counts of accidents involving damage to unattended property and one count each of duty to give information and render aid and failure to give immediate notice of an accident to the police department.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 20 before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic, of Shamokin.
Tyler-Davis was a new driver with Trans- Am Trucking Inc., Kansas, and had only been driving on his own for three weeks when the accidents occurred. He had made a delivery in Sunbury and was driving south to Philadelphia shortly before 10 a.m. Dec. 4 when he received bad directions from a GPS device. The GPS mistakenly directed him uphill on Sunbury Street rather than breaking right onto Route 61.
He first mowed down a stop sign and fence outside 1021 E. Sunbury St. while turning north onto Dubarry Street, police said. He struck a utility pole turning west onto Kase Street, and finally ripped a hole in the trucks trailer when he plowed through David Raricks home at Rock and Kase streets, causing severe structural damage.
Rarick was not home at the time of the collapse. His 2-year-old Great Dane, Thor, was not injured in the wreck.
The trucker continued downhill and turned onto Sunbury Street, where he hit a northbound motorist, and continued south on Route 61 while pulling building materials behind. Multiple 911 calls were made to report the badly damaged tractor-trailer. It was eventually stopped by Shamokin police on eastbound Route 901 near Industrial Park Road.
Tyler-Davis thought he had only hit a utility pole, and said he didnt pull over sooner because he was looking for a safe place to stop the truck, Tobias said.

The heck with gps. I like the I thought I only hit a pole. I guess if you don't look in your mirrors. You will never see the house, fense, or the car you just took out. Or the trail of building materials.

Its the "new breed" ya know... causing carnage all over the interwebs, dragging broken links around, 5 weeks late on an incident already discussed ad nauseum on TTR
,,,but, but my GPS spoke in tongues and made me post it!

My bad I don't frequent the web much and still trying to learn how to use this tablet and smart phone. One day when not defending the prime inc logo. I'll master the Ironphony deep inside me.

I would just write up all the damage to the trailer on a pre-trip inspection and say it was like that when I hooked up to it.
