Hi DenaliDad, in 3 seconds, a vehicle travelling 65 mph will go the length of a football field.
And at the hands of someone not expecting it or untrained to respond, the brain loses its ability to process information and freezes for just long enough...the picture at the end is not pretty.

    "semi" retired Thanks this.

Bad luck is all it is .. Until you have a 4 wheeler fall asleep and leave skid marks as he slumps over wheel and slides across road in front of you when you are grossing 100,000 lbs and all he gets is a broken arm and passenger not a scratch... All I had time to do was lock up brakes and steer straight which turned it into a deflection hit which still took out steer axle .. Thank god I was legal in my book that day and have been ever since .. All a person can do is drive safe and control what you can fate determines the rest

When one of our drivers got hit by a lady who wasn't paying attention. officer went through his log. Saw he was over. And after 2 months going back and fourth with insurance. They blamed it as his fault. Because if he ran legal he wouldn't have been there in the first place.

Yep...worked for a company that had a similar situation...guy lost control in the rain on an interstate, crossed the median, and went under the company's trailer loaded with 47k of Miller beer. Crushed his car like a monster truck...our driver, thinking he just killed someone had a massive heart attack and had to be life flighted out. Once they got the car cut open, the guy sat up and could hobble to the ambulance(they wouldn't let him)...busted ribs, badly bruised foot and a dislocated shoulder...our driver found at fault because he was waaay off, and was on his way thru home to get things lined back up on one of his logbooks when it happened. That ended our wild outlaw days at that company.

Months before that, one of our drivers was on his way thru home for Thanksgiving when a lady and her boyfriend ran a stop sign. 3x over the legal limit for being drunk, ripped the front tandem off the frame of the trailer, our driver was 30 minutes from home and 45 minutes over on his log...charged with the accident, got many tickets and was sued by the family...ended his career.
