Oh my god...... They say it was being demolished at the time of the collapse. Hope that JB driver will be ok.
-
So my question is...., Why would there be traffic on the road (if this was the truck's drivers case) if they was demolishing the overpass?
-
It's over a major interstate in a major city. Usually whey they do is close lanes where they'll be taking it down.
-
I saw this too. I'm not sure if the bridge part fell right in front of the truck, or he merely ran into the portion that fell. Shows that even the so called "experts" that are doing the demolition screw up too. I'm reminded of when Milwaukee County Stadium was being reconstructed, and the so called "experts" were hoisting a 450 ton panel in a stiff wind, against the concerns of the crew that the crane holding it up couldn't support the weight of the panel in the wind, and it collapsed the crane killing 3 workers. I guess it shows we're all human, and bound to make mistakes, sometimes with disastrous results.

That's the old Hopple St. overpass that they were taking down. The new overpass is already complete. That whole area is a mess, and has been for 20 years.
It's sad to hear about the worker that died. I read on another news site that he had four children, 3 under age nine. I can only imagine how they'll feel on waking up expecting daddy to come home soon. I keep thinking about my own kids and how they would react if something happened to me. It's enough to make this grown man cry.
That's one lucky JB driver. I hope he's thanking whatever higher power he subscribes to for watching out for him.
Everyone be safe out there."semi" retired Thanks this. -
If that truck driver really has only minor injuries like the article says, I don't believe it. Look at the position of the left steer. The engine and frame came to such an abrupt halt on impact with the concrete piece from above that the whole cab section continued forward over the frame.
Driver may have terrific soft tissue damage that won't start showing up for 2 weeks... and keep showing up for years.
Yeah, he looks fine, most likely still in shock. -
south bound I-75 will be closed for approx. 48 hrs.
