Wow. I was headed right for that mess on my way to Indiana. Glad I stopped on 1-80 westbound north of Pittsburgh. Plenty of hours to make it, I checked up because I hit a few white outs on I-80.

 

Glad to see our Stupid drivers are representing them self's well. White out means go faster in some peoples head.

 

To be fair, if you can't see anything to hit, there can't be anything to hit. /sarc

Virtually all of us let ourselves become accustomed to out-driving our sight lines, e.g., ~blinded by oncoming headlights, in curves where our velocity exceeds our ability to recognize a hazard and get stopped. Experience teaches us it's OK, because in the very vast majority of cases, nothing happens.

Your brain and experience will kill ya if you listen to them indiscriminately. The brain takes monumental shortcuts to complete the picture visual perception provides mostly as a blur.
