Being new this is the first time I've come across an accident like this. Not going to lie, it kind of shook me.

Coming down 380 between 7pm and 9 on Tuesday there was a US Express truck into the back of an O/O's trailer. It looks like the lead truck either pulled out of a inspection/weigh station in front of UsX or he didn't bother to get over. Most of the passenger side was crushed back halfway into the sleeper and there was smoke coming out of the cab. No first responders on scene when I went past but I could see them coming up in my mirrors.

I was wondering if anyone saw this or had any info on the UsX driver. I feel kind of guilty about not stopping but I don't know how much help I would have been or how I would have handled seeing a mangled driver. Just passing it I had chills for a good time after.

I had that happen to me going thru New Orleans around midnight back in the late 80's, a dude in a datsun pickup ran under the rear end of a tractor trailer stopped in the emergency lane right in front of me that wasn't pretty and I sure don't wish that on anybody. The truck driver was polish and was so shook up that he couldn't find his English words to talk to me or the police, the datsun driver died, my kind self who stopped to help ended up testifying in the law suit after his family tried to sue.

I stopped once...when the driver of a mini-van fell asleep at the wheel, went into someones yard, woke up, tried to correct and ended up hitting one of those cement culverts under a driveway with the drivers side wheels. It looked like a Hollywood movie stunt gone wrong, landed upside down then tumbled over and over until he smashed into a tree. The only way I knew what kind of vehicle it was, was because I found the horn pad off the steering wheel in the middle of the road. 1 DOA, 1 badly wounded. Called 911 and it got reported as a truck involved crash and the cops were treating me like I caused it...until witnesses that were following him chimed in and said that the only involvement I had was to block the road at the top of the hill before the wreck to keep the scene secure until the cops arrived...and that was the last time I stopped. Had it not been for the witnesses I would have been proving my innocence after being presumed guilty.

This was 15 years ago, and I can still picture the dead guy like it was yesterday.

My safety manager said I made the right call continuing on and the responses here reinforce that. I really don't know how the UsX driver could have survived with more than half his cab crushed back into the sleeper.
