Adequate following distance is something that the average trucker does not account for. Most that I see aren't following at a distance that would be safe for a four wheeler...let along a big rig. It's not uncommon to see big rigs on I-95 going 65+ MPH...following behind a four wheeler within 20'.

Where cars and trucks do some stupid BS anyways.
But can watch hours and hours of 4 wheelers zipping by in the fast lane less than 5 ft of space. -
-
Cities are a finite distance. Let the fourwheelers do what they do. You'll be through there or to your destination just a few minutes later. No need to jam a bumper in someones rear window.
-
Stay back 7 seconds and travel 3-4 mph under the flow and it won't matter what the 4 wheelers do. They will jump in and be gone. And the other trucks are just as bad or worse than the 4 wheelers. See them all the time that IF they had to stop they couldn't.

To explain, have you ever given someone a Christmas gift? Probably so. When they opened it and were delighted did you feel bad or punch them in the mouth and try to take it back? Probably not.
If you GIVE the space in front of you for other drivers to use, then that's a good thing when they use it. -
the less educated moron drivers tailgate- they're the ones who will race you to the receivers desk to hand in the paper work. I just walk calm and give a nod and just laugh, morons are a dime a dozen in this business.

If conditions (speed, weather, etc) tell me that I feel safely comfortable with no less than 5 car lengths space between me & who I'm following,
and THEN a 4-wheeler jumps in-between, cutting my following distance to 2 car lengths...
that previously safe following distance space was not "given" to him as any gift... he STOLE it. Plain & simple.
His "theft" will now require me to once again back off to 5 car lengths, to insure I drive in a safe manner.
I know this situ always occurs like rain & clockwork, but I just wish more motorists would recognize "safe following distance space" for what it is.Joetro, tsavory and slim shady Thank this. -
Did anybody get the name of the trucking company the guy from Wisconsin drove for?
