I used to be a body shop/ parts runner for a Cadillac dealership in early 80's and ran that bridge almost every work day.

Four people died in a fiery highway crash in Jacksonville on Monday.

A Florida Highway Patrol spokesman say the crash occurred in the afternoon on the Buckman Bridge segment of Interstate 275 when a tractor trailer hit an SUV from behind, killing two adults and two children inside.

FHP says another, smaller SUV was also damaged after the initial crash, injuring three more people inside. There was one driver in the tractor trailer, who survived the crash.

Traffic cameras showed that authorities had completely closed the southbound side of bridge to traffic following the crash.

Photos from the scene showed a large plume of black smoke coming from the bridge.
The names of the victims weren’t immediately released.

Not a lot of info given in the article, but obviously weather wasn't a factor.
I wonder what that drivers' deal was? (Or if he was even completely at fault)

Sorry, I'm gonna believe it wasn't the truckers fault until the investigation is complete. I might be wrong, but the 4 wheelers are out of control right now with texting/net surfing while driving. When's the last time you saw one attempting to merge without a phone plastered to their ears?

More info and video in link at bottom.

Flames and smoke poured from a fatal traffic crash on the Buckman Bridge Monday afternoon where two adults and two minors died, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The four were inside a Chevrolet Tahoe that was crushed by a tractor-trailer that failed to stop as traffic slowed in front of it, Sgt. Dylan Bryan said.
Three people in another sport-utility vehicle also were injured in the collision after being hit by the tractor-trailer as well, he said.
The truck’s driver was not injured.
“A vehicle was fully engulfed,” fire department spokesman Tom Francis said after rescue crews arrived.
Bryan said the collision ignited the fire almost instantly and doubted whether witnesses could have done much to help.
The crash was reported at 1:55 p.m. Monday in the southbound lanes of the Interstate 295 bridge over the St. Johns River.
The preliminary investigation shows that the SUV was slowing down with traffic when the semi-truck hit it, the Highway Patrol said. The driver is cooperating with investigators, but the investigation could take months, Bryan said.
All southbound lanes of the bridge were blocked into early evening. Traffic backed up for miles as police diverted motorists to northbound I-295, U.S. 17 or Blanding Boulevard.
Additional details and names have not been released.

Oops, my bad...still think the majority of accidents go back to 4 wheelers poor decisions. And yet we're never granted mea culpas when we save someone!

Happens all the time, literally. Sadly, however, our profession is being ever-inundated with more and more incompetent, impatient malcontents.

Prayers to the families of the deceased.
