- A school bus, a truck and an automobile collided on a rural highway in Washington state on Thursday, killing the woman who was driving the car and sending 46 others, most of them children, to area hospitals, state troopers said.One of the students was believed to be in serious condition, but none of the 42 other students appeared to have been badly hurt, said Trooper Darren Wright, who was at the scene.
Wright said the school bus driver and two occupants of the truck also were taken to the hospital. The truck occupants were reported in serious condition, he said, but added the extent of the school bus driver's injuries was not immediately known.
The accident occurred at about 8 a.m. on Highway 97 north of the town of Orondo, a community along the banks of the Columbia River about 150 miles east of Seattle.
The school bus was carrying 40 to 50 students of all ages from the Orondo School District, school board member Jennifer Forman said. "None of the kids on the bus were critically injured," and all of them were taken to Central Washington Hospital, she said.
Details about the circumstances of the accident were not immediately available.
Wright said the school bus and the box truck were traveling in opposite directions on the highway.
Photographs from the scene posted online showed that the front ends of both the bus and truck were badly smashed.

Apparently, the box truck driver crossed the center line, hit the car then hit the bus. What strikes me as odd is the report that the same box truck driver had a very similar accident just over a year ago very near the same site as this crash. Seriously?! What are the odds?

"We are investigating the truck (driver) for fatigue issues," Wright said. "He crossed the center line and struck the vehicles."

State Patrol reports also show the driver of the box truck, identified as 54-year-old Kenneth A. Hahn, was involved in another crash near the same spot on US-97 just over a year ago. On Feb. 13, 2014, Hahn was driving a 1998 International Van truck when he crossed the center line about 10 miles north of Orondo and struck a Honda Pilot with three people inside, including a 3-year-old boy, according to the crash report. All three survived but the two adults in the Pilot were hospitalized. The report states Hahn was cited with driving over the centerline.
