IIRC, that stretch of road has a paved shoulder. so it's beyond me why this incident ever occurred in the first place barring a suicide action.

I had already read that also. But I learned first hand a long time ago not to take everything written in news articles as fact.
More often than not, it's later revealed how inaccurate their initial reports really are.bullhaulerswife and tsavory Thank this. -
I wonder if this was one of those situations in which someone was so engrossed in something he could allow a train to hit him? Was he looking at a phone?
-
Also, he supposedly was facing oncoming traffic (walking N/B in S/B lane).
In the general location he was struck, there's a fairly sharp curve on US 65, so I'm wondering if that curve had any bearing in this fatality. -
Of course he wasn't hit by a train.

Responding to a call, just get there ASASP (as soon as SAFELY possible). If that means running a little fast, so be it. If excess speeds are required, lights & possibly even sirens (if possible) should be used. I understand there are times you can't use lights and/or sirens...and in those situations, keep the speeds within reason.
Not responding to a call? Don't speed...posted speed limit should apply same as with any other vehicle on the road.Buckeye91, drvrtech77, clausland and 3 others Thank this. -
I'm not anti Leo but I do disagree with their gross misconduct of excessive speeding. It is not warranted
