Work shut down on street where Martinez woman was crushed by gravel truck

To me, there's not a lot of investigative work required to know what happened, why it happened, and what could have been done to prevent this. Sad, sad, sad

I'm sure the woman trying to move her car was completely unaware of what can happen when dumping on an unlevel surface, but surely someone on that job site saw the potential for a problem, and certainly the dump driver. Good grief. It doesn't take much of a ground angle to lay one over when you put 39 foot of heavy product up that high.

Could be another factor involved, such as the driver forgot to release the gate lock before raising? But again, no good excuses on this one and some are going to have to learn to live with a lot of guilt. Can you imagine a 4 year old daughter watching this happen?

The driver owned the truck but not the trailer as the article says. Could be he had not operated that kind of dump trailer before. Somebody should have had common sense enough to keep an eye out for the lady.

It is not if a frameless end dump will turn over just when,,happens alot

Driver fault most likely, raising the dump box on a slight slope. uneven load, turned over by high wind?,, a customer of mine a very large multi farm dairy operation had a couple end dumps turn over,,they let most all of their drivers on the farm drive it,,I suggested they buy a side dump.. solved the problem for a few years until one of their drivers turned it over,,,

Dump drivers need to have a clear zone. That way if she goes over its just a incident not a death.

The way Cali reacts to stuff, I can see the legislators drafting a bill requiring outriggers that deploy as the bed goes up to be fitted to all end-dumps used in residential areas in the future.
