There is not a lot of details here but it seems an empty truck & van trailer got stuck on a railroad crossing in Ruston, Louisiana & was hit by a Kansas City Southern train. No injuries but the truck & trailer (according to the article) sustained significant damage. Sorry, only one picture in this article.

Didnt see a picture of the crossing,.. but I'm having a hard time understanding how he got stuck?

The 2nd link which has the video shows a better view of the tracks & scene over all. I didn't find it tho until I had already posted the 1st link...
It was a pretty steep "hill" .... the road was built up pretty high/steep for the rail road bed/tracks, so I am sure his landing gear got caught. -
I live just a few miles from this crossing. It is a very high angle up to the tracks. There was really no reason for him to be there IMO. I am not home to be sure, but I can almost be certain that the landing gear is what hung up. There is a place that has empty pallets just the other side of this crossing. he could have been going there, but there is a way in from the other side that is MUCH safer with no tracks to cross.

Is there signage or any other warnings to let a driver unfamilar with the area know that the RR crossing is a hazard before it's too late? -
-
If his landing gear got hung up, why would they give him a ticket, if it was hung there was no way for him to get out of the way?

It is a fairly steep incline up to the tracks headed s/b (as the direction of this pic).
At least steep enough to hang up landing gear.
There also seems to be a bit of dropoff on the south (other) side of the tracks.
I'll see if I can catch some better pic angles, and will edit/add them.Last edited: Mar 28, 2015

The company I work for had an issue a while back. The company I work for has a variety of trailers from different manufacturers...the shop put new landing gear on one of the trailers, but used the wrong manufacturer's landing gear...so, wound all the way up, you could barely get your foot under the shoe. We complained about it and nothing got done...until one of our drivers got stuck on a slightly taller than average speed bump at a new customer...bending the crap out of the landing gear shoe ....they tried to blame the driver for not winding the gear higher until they pulled the service r/o's and found that it was a failure of the shop... perhaps something like that happened here because the picture looks like a decent upgrade, but not excessive. And if there is a warehouse/pallet place right there, others made it over the tracks.
Once thing for sure...he isn't stuck any more.(I only joke because nobody got hurt)48Packard Thanks this.
