Truck driver dies in Pasadena crash
    10/3/07
    Los Angeles Times, CA
A truck driver died this morning after his big rig collided with a tractor-trailer, catching fire on the 210 Freeway in Pasadena and forcing part of the roadway to be closed, authorities said.

Shortly before 6 a.m., officials in Pasadena found both trucks on fire. One was fully engulfed. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, but the driver was declared dead at the scene, said Lisa Derderian, a spokeswoman for the Pasadena Fire Department.

The second driver was taken to a local hospital with burns, Derderian said.

Authorities were diverting traffic from the freeway, east of Arroyo Boulevard, to Lincoln Avenue and rerouting traffic back onto the freeway, said John Seumanutafa, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol. He said westbound lanes in the area would remain closed until authorities could investigate the accident.

Also, a big rig was blocking three lanes of traffic on the northbound 405 Freeway at Highway 118, causing long delays, Seumanutafa said.

Exclamation Big Truck Accidents in L.A.

Stuff like this just builds up more rage and hate for truckers in the L.A. area---I see this happen weekly out there!! Thick, fast-moving, quick lane-changing traffic causes jack knives, and ALL of us drivers are vulnerable! Even the most experienced driver ought to be 'white-knuckled' when driving that area, expecting the worst! I dont care how safe & experienced a driver one is, there is 'that' scenario that can get ya!!!!!!!

    Good luck to all..............
