DPS looking for semi-truck after high country hit and run

An attempt to get help turned tragic for a Northern Arizona family last weekend. The father was seriously injured, after being hit by a semi-truck on I-17 south of Munds Park.

That man was trying to get help after hitting an elk with his car just moments earlier. With no cell phone, DPS says Samuel Honie tried to flag down help. A semi-truck driver stopped, but ended up running the man over two times. First, he backed up over the man, and then pulled forward.

Honie is from Second Mesa on the Hopi reservation. Emergency crews say the area of I-17 where the accident occurred can be dangerous because itís so dark at night.

Honie's wife and five year old child were not hurt in the accident, but are in shock that the truck driver fled the scene. Investigators say they're doing their best to recount the details.

Honie is currently in critical condition at Flagstaff Medical Center. DPS only has a sketchy description of the vehicle, which is a white tractor trailer with rear end damage.
