The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is preparing its final rule on the registry and plans to send it to the White House April 19 for approval. The registry is proposed to be in place by January 2012.

6' tall and 222lbs is a BMI of 30... That is just about covers everyone on the road..... I am 6' 2" and weigh around 220 so I might squeek under I guess) BUT, I suppose they are going to require more $$ to be paid by the driver to pay for this "test" too? On top of the already massivily redundant costs already charged for CDL licenses, HazMat endorsement is additional, Then they charge more to fingerprint for the HazMat.. Then the background check... THEN you get to do it all over again for your TWIC card because the HazMat isn't good enough.. (Unless you want your TWIC to expire at the same time your HazMat expires.. I know because mine are at 2 different times..) Then we have to have a passport or some similiar credential for border crossing, The regular Med Cert... Now another bill on top of all this? When is it going to stop? I bet airline pilots don'y have to go through this many hoops to get their licenses!

Oh, and we are "Non-Skilled Labor" as defined by the IRS to boot. Kinda ticks ya off a bit now dosen't it? I think driving regulations have gotten way out of line, beyond common sense and into the relm of total insanity. We have plenty of regs already written if the police would just enforce the laws already on the books EVENLY we would be soo much better off!

When is the last time you saw a cop ticketing someone for passing on the right? Failing to signal? Improper lane change? Failure to keep right? Last I knew these are still laws in most states.. How come they are not enforced? We need cameras, and speed limiters... GPS, and transponders... More laws, and more signs.. More lights, and more rules... Come on people get with it...

The problem with this BMI stuff is it dont take into consideration the diffrent body types so i guess a football player at 6ft 250 pounds packed full of muscle is obese BS,this is all about more money for the medical field plain and simple most of the docs on the panel practice in the field there trying to make into a regulation ,the last physical i got the nurse was 2 times the size of me wheres her BMI test.

That is just recommendations of the review board. This is not anywhere near a rule making yet, and even Dr. John says a rule is a good ways away.
The BMI of 30 is too low, that is what most military branches want these days.
The recommendation was 35, which I am just under.
In the service at age 18 I was 6' and they wanted me at 192. I did a body fat analysis once I started lifting, since I went up to 218.
At that point I was 218 with a 4% body fat, so they told me to gain weight since that was too low, and I had to have a full analysis done every 6 months to make sure I was not going over weight.
My brother inlaw is in the airforce now, he just has to have a BMI under 30.

If they ever do bring this into rulemakeing and make a rule and I get stuck with a sleep test, I will sue them and I am 90% sure I will win. Since I have no symptoms accept my weight is a little high, my neck is over 17 inch (no matter what I weigh), and I smoke.
I do not have apnia and I will not pay for there stupid study. I may loose a few pounds, but that will be for my health and not due to some jerkoff in DC.

    Roadhound and Boardhauler Thank this.

Oh, and it is not prepairing a final rule, it is considering a proposed rule, BIG DIFFERANCE.
They first have to have a proposed rulemaking, then a listening peorid, then a rulemaking will follow, which will be an interum rule, then an interum final rule.
    This takes a LONG time.
