I got some training yesterday on CSA 2010 and watched an interesting video. I also saw my scores online.
They collect data from 3 area's
Your score card is called BASIC which is some kind of acronym I missed??
- Roadside inspections
- Crashes
- Violations during intervention like company audits
The score card contains the following categories that your violation is placed into:
Each violation is scored on severity and is multiplied by 1, 2 or 3.
- Fatigued driving, like HOS violations
- Unsafe Driving, like no seatbelt, or other driving violations they note on an inspection.
- Driver Fitness
- Crash Indicator
- Controlled Substance/ Alcohol
- Improper Loading/ Cargo Securement
- Vehicle Maintainance
Add 2 points for being placed out of service. Times...You have 90 points allowed to you before intervention begins.
- One to six months old
- Six months to one year old
- One year to three years old
You are also compared to the other drivers in your company and ranked by a percentile in comparison. So the more bad drivers in your company, your ranking drops and vise versa.
Your clean inspections are also noted and weighed in some how?
Page one contains a bar graph of your violations in each BASIC category. It also has your fleet ranking total comparing you to the other drivers in your company. Then the BASIC categories are individually listed with:
They also receive a another sheet with each inspection or incident noted containing:
- Number of company violations in that category
- Your number of violations in that category
- Company number of violations in that category
- Crashes
- % Comparison (Non-OOS vs OOS)
- Total Points
- BASIC Measure (x1,x2,x3)
- CSA 2010 Percentile Rank
Currently only companies and O/O's can access this site many are using.
- Inspection State
- Report #
- Duration of inspection in minutes
- Level inspection
- Inspection root cause
- # of violations
- Severity points
- Out of service points
- Total Severity (2 above added)
- Time weight (1,2,3 multiplier)
- CSA Points total for inspection/incident

In the coming months drivers will have sites to check their own stats.
Bad companies and drivers will be subject to increased roadside inspections and audits.
There was a whole list of severe violations. I only caught Jumping an OOS, driving ill, driving fatigued, falsifying, load securement are some of the big ones.
Note I maintained a clean record for 12 years before coming to this company. Due to the way they operate I opened myself up to violations. Nobodies fault but my own, but our company is marked by some states. I am going to change companies and improve my ways. But to give you an idea of the points....
So I have 40 points and I'm ranked 85% in the fleet which isn't good. Time will improve my score as points drop and others mess up.
- I broke the 14 hr rule trying to get a load delivered and was placed OOS, 27 points (Fatigued driving, 9 pts x 3 time +2 oos)
- I wear my seatbelt but was caught leaving a truck stop without it on. 7 points (unsafe driving, 7 pts x 1 time)
- Bear in the middle saw my air lines touching the catwalk and pulled me over. 6 points (Vehicle Maintainance, 3 pts x 2 time)
- Five good inspections in 3 yrs
In 4 months more my points will drop to 30 since my last incident was August 2010. Next August 2011 my points will drop to 21 which is alot better.
Hope this helps some!

Thanks,
that's why the company that you work for matters sooo much. -
Good info. I had our safety dept send me a printout of my Safesat score a few weeks ago. Company score is 26, mine was zero.
-
Its encouraging at least that your "infractions" seem to be easily avoided with a little thought. The "inspectors" didn't have to dig too deep!

6 fired so far this month...another "So I'm told" moment.rookietrucker Thanks this. -

There appears to be a driver shortage already.... It's going to get worse the way it looks. Which, for us owner operators means higher freight rates.
My take on the CSA 2010 stuff is that if you do what you're already supposed to be doing, you'll be just fine. It's not rocket science!JustSonny Thanks this. -
There's plenty of room to mess up and improve. It would take like 3 major violations to mess you up bad. -
Ivan Buckner will get rid of drivers if they pick their nose these days.... -
That means I'm gone Monday then. I did a lot more than pick my nose, on the phone Friday morning.
It probably sounded more like the ravings of a lunatic.
