HOS with the time change?

    How does the time change affect your 11/14?

    I am a nurse and when ever I had to work either the fall or spring time change day it was a huge mess to try to figure out the timing of things, for instance when you could give a medication that was given as needed (like pain medication every 4 hours) you had to take in account the time and give or take maybe 1/2 to one hour. Pretty much guess work!

    Same question as related to the electronic log? Does it automatically switch the time?

    Maybe the electronic log does it correctly.

    I have yet to figure that out because I used to have to be driving at 0200 most Sunday mornings; this year, I get to not be out.

    I have asked and gotten contradictory advice.

    I found that the best way was to start the log for the day on the new time.

    You have to log it as you do it. And in the notes section you will have to note that you observed the time change.
    Just make sure that you do not go over your legal drive time and take a full 10 hour break.
    Normally I am on break when the clocks change or off for the weeked, so it is easy.
    If driving you need to make a note of it and show it.
    Kind of a pain. But the DOT understand, so just make sure you do not go over anywhere.

    Thanks so far guys- seems pretty close to what I also did-just made a note of it in the chart so that we were covered legally.

    can you explain this a little more.....Lets say I start driving at midnight (12AM sunday morning) can I drive until 11am? with the "fall back" that would really be 12 hours.....or do I have to stop at 10am?

    Your driving time is still 11 hours. You then enter the break. Your break will be the adjustment time.

    why would you flag going threw a time zone? you always log in your home terminals time...............

    This is assuming you have been taught to log the same way it's in the rules.

    You don't change time zones when logging, it's all done in the same time zone as your home terminal. There really is no problem except when you are driving or your 14 hours has started when the daylight time is either added or removed. An adjustment has to be made when you are working during the time change. The other potential problem is your time off may have to be adjusted as well to reflect the proper amount of sleeper and /or off duty times between work periods, but if you don't work during the weekend, the hassle is non existent.

    The technicality is that you have a 23 hour day when the clocks are moved ahead and a 25 hour day this Sunday when the clock goes back.

    My second son was born on the day before the fall time change in 1976, that was one long night.

    What are the rules if I'm driving a FOREIGN built truck ????

    I'm a redhead, and heard that daylight savings doesn't apply to me !!!!

    If I'm sleeping at 2AM, do I need to wake up and log the time change ???
