DOT Physical and your CDL

i understand the company seeing my med information but handing it over to the dmv is another entity. i do believe they should not have acsee to my medical information they are in fact a driver licensing agency not a medical agency and therfore should not have any acess to medical records of any type

 

That's why pilots, like myself, have 2 doctors, one for the real world and one for flying/truck driving(now)...The latter only gets to know what he sees, the other takes care of me!

 

from what i have just read from the provided link, when your health card is about to expire, you had better get a new one, go to your local DMV and SHOW them the new card..........

some of us (like me) are on blood pressure pills. i can only get a 1 year card.....which means.......every year, i must get a new card (anyway's) but have to go to my DMV and show them its up to date.......

i cannot wait for retirement......i'll take that proudly too.......they can have my CDL........cuz in my retrirement years, i wont care if trucks are still on the road or not....

 

You really wonder what's going on. I decided late in 2008 (after 15yrs - OTR W/1 accident) to retire for 2 years or so and get my social security going and so on. My CDL class A expires on my birthday this month. South Carolina DMV says that I need a DOT Health Card to renew my license, or even change my address. It just doesn't make sense to require me to pay the expense to get a card, because even if I get a job one week later they'll send me to their doctor for a DOT card to cover themselves. I always thought you needed to be in a truck and under a load, gainfully employed to need a Health Card. I thought DMV was supposed to qualify your status as a driver and help you to maintain it as long as you did not abuse the privilege.
If I don't play along with this silly game, I'll have to lose my Class A and go back to a 4-wheeler license. The DOT was formed to help and protect truck drivers "RIGHT"...

It's been that way in Alberta for as long as I can remember. At least 20-25 years.

 

The state of Indiana is doing this now. Any CDL holder must take a physical and long form is sent to dMV and cannot get CDL or renewed until physically qualified. Other states are expected to follow suit. Jack Sr Safety Consultant

 

Ct started this bull last year, used to have a 5 year liscense now its only good for 2 years and need to show medical card to renew.. What i find funny is i have to be in exellent health but the cop that pulls me over can be 400 pounds smoke and barley breath but thats fine and i see plenty of em out here.
