OK Please forgive me, I am new and getting set up to haul cargo trailers for various manufactures in the us to dealers in Canada.

I have my DOT, MC #'s, insurance. The manufacturer will be faxing the cargo info to customs, but there is where I am getting conflicting info.

Do I require a customs broker to clear our loads for us?

What else am I forgetting to have in order to run legally and cross the border with the loads.

Any help from experienced carriers, and folks in the know would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

    John

Every load I have taken into canada went thru a customs broker.

You will need to use a broker, and hopefully have PARS numbers ahead of time so that you can call the broker after you have faxed them all the paperwork, so that it can all be precleared before you get to the border. And you need to know approx when you expect to cross the border, and exactly where, and include that with the info you fax to the broker.
And of course you need to have the Provinces you will be going into on your IFTA and base plate paperwork.

The dealer you will be delivering too, provides the broker information to the shipper of the cargo trailers. This is required prior to the unit being issued to ship.

At that point the PARS information needs to be completed. My dispatch takes care of this. I know they do it for some independents sometimes. The PARS is then faxed to the broker with the information needed on arrival times.

Road medic, you are correct, I was able to get ahold of the manufacturer, and he confirmed the other day that the recieving dealer takes care of all the paperwork and provides a broker for clearing the load, they both use the E-manifest system.

I am aware of the IFTA requirements my PRP plates for my ontario vehicles.

I do thank all of you for your input, it is a great help.
