If you split-berth log, so long as you spend at least 2 hours at the dock (line 1 or 2 - or both), you should have time to find a place to park nearby (assuming, of course, you didn't burn your 11 on the way in). Just take 8 in the sleeper once you DO park, and you should be fine.

Of course your company and/or the DOT will say that you should've found a place to park before your clock ran out....it's a catch 22.Grandiego Thanks this. -
Remember officers would rather not have any log violations but one rule of thumb we all normally have is don't lie to me!
So in DOT's eyes they would rather see an hours of service violation as to a false log. FAlse means you are logging somewhere you are really not on your log sheet! -

I need you to explain the split spleeper option to me if you dont mind. My thing is this I run hotshot work sort of, and I usually never have to worry about going over my 11. The problem is I allways run out of the 14 and I'm usually not but a couple hrs. from the house, so I dont want to have to take a whole 10 hr break. Please explain how the split option works. Thanks in advance. -
The only way you can split now is a 8-2 split.

You need to have 8 hours in the sleeper before you can extend the 14 hour period.
Another thing is you can't drive 11 and then extend the 1 hour period.
Im going to post another sheet explaing the 11/14 & split breaking. Mainly touching basis on the regulations & split breaking tips! Im trying to make it easy. If everyone just reads through them and draw some examples and keep studying (which it doesn't take long to catch on) then you will get it and know how to deal with your day to day issues on logging. Im not being a smart ellic just trying to let all drivers know that are reading this.
Im posting in regulations -
