    If I already have a FAST card, why do I need a TWIC card? The FAST card is a DHS background check and threat assessment too...

    FAST = Border crossings.
    TWIC = Ports of Entry and such (not valid for border crossing but valid for TSA Security at airports)

    ...neither are related and are separate programs.

    I have a FAST, TWIC and NEXUS and they are all unique for different reasons.

    PS. TWIC also contains an embedded smart chip (SMART CARD) that contains data about you and your fingerprints.
    It is secured with a 6 digit code and if need be, they can scan your fingerprints and when you unlock the TWIC
    they can compare your taken fingerprints with recorded/verified fingerprints to verify identity (at a port of entry for example).

    I often wonder what else is on that chip...

    FYI:
    A few months ago, anyone carrying a FAST or NEXUS card are now automatically enrolled in the Global Traveler Program
    for free, and that used to be a separate chargable entity.

    NEXUS/FAST are border cards to cross into Mexico or Canada.
    UCR = Unified Carrier Registration. Paid each year supposedly to cover training and enforcement of Motor Carrier Rules and Regulations.

    Anyone that runs as a Motor carrier; Motor private carrier; Freight forwarder; Broker;
    or Leasing company, is required to pay UCR and the fee is based on the number of trucks you own.
    The lowest price is about $81 with processing fees.

    another way to look at that situation is, how many miles did you get (in total) from the time you got there (from your dispatch point), to the time you got to deliver....??

    then if what you earned was at least the break even point of the cost of the TWIC, then i'd say you got the TWIC paid for.

    from that point on, any loads you pick up, requiring the TWIC card, you go beyond the cost of the card, making you ahead of the expense...

    thusly, the card paid for itself...

    see what i mean...?? if you didn't have the card, you wouldn't have gotten the loads, that would eventually pay for the cost of the card...otherwise, you would have been earning miles doing other loads.....maybe less, maybe more, who knows.

    It's called a Tax. As others have said all about money and some bureaucrat trying to justify his existence.

    You're ok with somebody feeling up your wife and kids at the airport and shooting them up with 3 times the radiation of an x-ray walking through a body scanner that shows their naked bodies? If you ask me the whole entire "security" apparatus in this country is a joke, that's not very funny. We're all treated like criminals and have no constitional protections anymore.

    I don't fly anymore due to this....and I am not alone..check out Jesse Venture:

    http://www.infowars.com/breaking-fo...fly-due-to-abuse-hes-endured-at-hands-of-tsa/

    Excerpt: "I wish no ill will on my country. I am a patriot to my country. And yet I am subjected and treated like I might hijack a plane or I might blow up and murder people. And I take offense to that"

    It's kinda like drug tests. We have to PROVE we are not guilty if you think about it....
