For one thing maybe you should try the FMCSA web site for "official" points.
Your web link is almost 3 years old and stuff has been changed.
I'll will point out as have others on here THERE ARE NO CSA POINTS FOR OVERWEIGHT TICKETS!
If running overweight was unsafe no one would be able to get a OVERWEIGHT permit. EVER
Granted not every overweight load can be permitted but who is to say a 5 axle 85000lbs gross truck is unsafe vs. another 85000lbs gross truck that has a permit?
The pinheads that came up with CSA seen this as a problem and changed the points to NO POINTS for the driver. Its a CARGO BASIC and at some point when it becomes pubic the carrier may be on the hook with points at that point in time.

dont you just LOVE these absolutist quotes?

NO REASON? how about no cat scale for miles, try driving out of the woods of maine, i am sure there are other places, where you load one place and the nearest cat scale can be 50mi in the opposite direction and the chicken house is five miles away in the direction you are going

you should stop with this pompous responses

    aint that a hoot

you can tow a 90,000 lb truck on a public highway (not including the tow truck) but you cannot drive a 90,000 lb truck on the highway

I got pulled around at the Dunsmuir scale in CA. I'm a flatbedder, but due to low freight in AZ they had me run a van around. Didn't know a thing about moving tandems and 5th wheels, but got it right after 50 minutes. I get to CA from WA after fueling in OR. 420 lbs over gross. Here come the measuring tapes. KPTRA was 42.5 feet. Can only be 40 in CA. Moved it up and now I'm giving free lumber away at the back of my trailer. 2 violations on that level 3 inspection, no ticket, my companies claims can handle the pallet of wood I gave away for having me pull a van with no training, and I had a cigarette and some pizza right after.

In this state the regs state that it is a violation to operate a vehicle on the roadway that exceeds legal limits. The key word is "operate." That means the driver. It is not illegal to possess an overweight vehicle on your company lot. The violation occurs when you hit the road. I write a citation to the operator. Same for speeding - If you get stopped for speeding, I don't write the owner of the vehicle / the company, I write the operator. When that citation dies not get paid, the warrant is issued for the driver. We can't issue warrants for companies. Carrying a note from the company or refusing to sign the citation, does not remove your responsibility. Neither does tearing up the ticket or throwing it in the air. I do not get involved with CSA and do not keep track of what how violation are weighted or scored or who they are scored against. State violations are generally scored less than federal violations and weight tickets are state violations.

I had a DOT officer tell me once that citations are not reported on your CSA score unless he does an inspection. Of course, most of the time they will do an inspection when they pull you over or into the scale. I had a driver who received a ticket in Tennessee several years ago for being over on the trailer. He got a ticket and so did I. He passed at least 6 scales that I could count, but failed to weigh. All he had to do to be legal was to spread the trailer axles. Most states will only issue a ticket to the operator, since they are the only one who can check the equipment or load. If you have a load that is heavy, it is safer to stop at a CAT scale before you go through a DOT scale.

    That's not always the case.

I got a ticket and inspection. 2 years before CSA rolled out. Nothing i could do about it. I was a local dirt hauler pulling an end dump. Hauling dirt from the top of a mountain and dumping down on the bottom. Where highway patrol decided to spend the day harrasing the local truckers. I was 1500 over on the trailer. When he stopped me on that particular trip. Good for $50. CSA rolls out and that ended up being my first negative inspection. Albeit only reportable for 1 year.
