    Class B Weight questions

I've got a Class A CDL but I took a Class B job driving a bobtail tanker hauling diesel. It's got two tanks that holds 2000gls each which is roughly 28,00lbs (7lbs per 1gl of diesel) fully loaded. I'm pretty sure fully loaded would be over weight but I'm not sure what the weight limits are on a class B. So does anyone know how much I can legally haul including the tractor?

    Thx for the help

    Ray

Look at the factory label on the door jamb. It will state the max axle weights for each axle and your registration will state your max registered weight. Those define the weight limit for your truck.

    Class B

There are no weight limits on a Class B CDL.

Single unit CMV's have several areas of weight limit:
    - axle weight
    - bridge weight (axle spacing)
    - tire rating
    - license weight
    - max lading (specification cargo tanks)

If it is class 8 common axle weights would be 12k front and 36K rear for dual tandems, however it may be permitted for more.

    Check tire rating?

    Have you weighed it?

The driver is responsible for the weight and will be ticketed if caught over.

I guess it's a straight truck with a tank? How many axles do you have? For example do you have 3 axles consecutive on the rear (tri-axle)?, and a steering axle for a 4 axle unit? Without knowing how many axles and what the spread is, their is no way to tell you a legal weight. Not sure what every State allows, and if you run in only one State, you may want to contact their weight enforcement personnel and/or the lead MCSAP Agency for that State.

Check your cab card. It should list the weight for which you are permitted.

That is only the allowed registered weight. It will still have to abibe by statutory weight limits, i.e. axle weight and bridge law.
