I would like to start a thread on weird DOT inspection violations.

Please tell us the strangest, weirdest, most off the wall violation you have ever received on a DOT inspection.

Please do not make them up, and only relate those you have actually received, not been told by someone else (urban truckstop legend stuff).

I look forward to reading your responses.

The no sheet regulation, lol just kidding.

Funny weird! After driving across the hot I-10 in the summer I pulled on the CA port of entry scales. The officers were all laughing and pointing towards the rear of my trailer. I looked in the mirror and watched a bubble come out the tire sidewall and grow to the size of a basketball. They pulled me around back and still laughing the officer pulled out his pocketknife and popped it. Luckily there was a tire repair guy there already and my delay was minimal and just received a warning.

    Let's see.....

I got written up for having the stacks on my ten-wheeler pointed at a 45* angle....

The officer told me that was illegal.....And they had to either face rear or point straight up......

The reason why they were set at the 45* angle was because of my auto tarp....the exhaust pointed straight back would damage the motor....He didn't care and wrote me up anyway....

Received a warning ticket because the license plate was on a hinged mounting bracket beneath the front bumper. It came that way from the factory. At highway speeds, the license was unreadable by officers on the other side of the Interstate. I had to change the mounting bracket and have it inspected by a police officer who signed with his badge number. I found a detective to sign off on it. It made his day.

A Beverly Hills City Kitty tried to write me up for that one day.....I asked where you mount a license plate on the T-800 Gull wing bumpers.....He agreed that the hinged mount was best.....It's not like the 379 or the W-900...There's no place to properly mount a plate unless you use a hinge mount.....

I recieved a ticket about 10-12 yrs ago on the Jersey Turnpike for not having logged time and place of entry onto NJTP. Got nabbed getting off the pike at Jersey City exit 15E. They were random spot checking after you leave the toll booth.

Did you hear about the DOT there got busted by the feds for a scam where they'd write up rigs for OOS brakes and drums.....Then split the money with a local shop?.......

Yep....Nothing worse than a cop ripping off people........Fine line between the cop and the felon......

LA County Sheriff wrote me a ticket for not having a CA DOT number. The US DOT number is sufficent and was signed off at the next scale house.

How is that a problem? Even if you're grabbing a ticket or paying the toll, it's a 1 second affair? Where'd they get the basis that you needed to show a point for changing highway numbers?
