I ran into this question from a friend of mine yesterday who had a extra long run and wanted to get home for the holiday weekend when she called me and asked "How do I log this?"
She called and told me she was just about at her 14 hours. I told her to use the 16 hour rule since she met all the requirements.
She then proceeded to tell me she had 1.5 hours of driving time left but someone told her that even though you can use the 16 hour rule, you cannot drive after you hit 14 hours even though you have 1.5 hours of driving time left.
I never heard of such a thing and was wondering if anyone else out their has ever had this question pop up?

I'd like to hear more specifics on this case. I can use the 16 hour rule, but am afraid I'd screw it up. I've never needed to do it so far anyway, but just in case.

I hear an amazing number longhaul drivers say "i'l just involke the 16 hr rule" and not understand it is for drivers that drive short haual daycabs only, and begin and end their day at the same location (functionaly).
As a long-haul drivet with a sleeper, you can add a bit of time to your clock using the safe haubour rule to find s safe parking spot,or adverse conditions to add to yur 11....but the 14 is tough to jusrify breaking...no single rule allows you to majicly add a few hours to your day under the CURRENT RULES.
i think if you go that far over, and get caught, you are just SOL. -
