any load wider than trailer, longer,or over 13,6 falls in oversize load(wide load ) category. plus if your not sure label it any way. but most importantly check with state d.o.t do not assume anything someone tells you.

You would be incorrect sir. My trailer is 96" wide, legal width is 102" so I can legally hang 3" off of each side. Length laws vary by state, as do height laws.

Bayou hotshot, you must have been hauling round bales. Texas did away with the overwidth requirement on them a few years ago but I don't know if that's still in effect. It's interesting that MS would have a specific permit for hauling wide hay. Thanks for the info.

yes ,yes, yes but your 96 over hanging 3" on a non 102 road way is oversized. but not trying to get technical just saying dont assume. and yes, yes ,yes depends on state for height etc. just sayin those 3 things should have you make a phone call first before assuming anything. plus whos to say he was pulling a 96?

Glad you got a ticket hauling those big round bales. They should be outlawed hauling side by side.
It can be reduced in size. Got clipped years ago by one of those haulers and he just kept one going.
    Cops finally caught him.
and he never knew he hit me and then to top it off he lost one of the bales and did'nt know that either

It only makes sense that anything 10'6" wide should need a permit.

Most states require a permit, some do not charge for them. Some states waive the permit during a crisis, but only for a few weeks.

I always wondered about that. You see farmers running around here with 3 round bales wide hanging a couple feet off each side with a row of two stacked up top. They can get away with it while truckers engaged in commerce have strict laws. They have no flags or signs either.

Any load wider than 106 inches can be ticketed without a permit for motor carriers, depends on how much they want to write a ticket.

Some states exempt agriculture loads if hauled by the point of origination,
in most states they are not even required to have a CDL to operate the truck.
