One time in Lexington KY at the 111 I was pulled over for no reason. He told me to follow him and he took me to an isolated area and pulled a level 1. He was real nice and I got a clean inspection.
They need no reason to pull you over.
Another time in IA, I always wear my seat belt. I come out of the truck stop and put it on when I hit the on ramp. The state man was under the overpass and pulled me over and said you should of put it on before you saw me. I was like ???. He then said I can't pull you over for a seatbelt because it is a secondary offense. He then proceeds to do a level III so he had an excuse to pull me over and write a ticket.
I wasn't too happy about that deal. If they don't have a reason, they'll make one.

Hell seat belts are in the FMCSR's now. Pretty sure the can cite you as a primary on them in a CMV.
Uh DB, Scalemaster isn't that right? -

He wouldn't of told me that if that was the case. I'll go check. That was back in 07,

the officer showed me on warning ticket, where it states reason for stopping me. but I still say he did not need a reason. why couldn't he put, stopped for level 2 insp? maybe he just wanted to look good, by stopping a speeder & also making sure his equip is safe on HIS hwy. I have disagreed with many, most on forums like this, where some say if you have good equip, dont break the law,do your pre/post trip, e.t.c. you have nothing to worry about.and if you get a violation, it's your own fault. I will still maintain my position. say if the cop did stop me for insp only, & one top marker light was out. even though it is daylight it will still go against my record & how do you prevent a light from going out? you cannot. everything goes out sometime.

I just looked. Roadmedic and Tazz is correct. 392.16
And IA seat belt laws were amended in 2010. It is a primary offense, non moving violation.
But that leo did tell me that. Maybe he was going by IA law back then? -
Possible. Maybe jsut rambling as he looked over PPWK?
HHSS no single inspection will get you on the bad side of CSA.Yeah they all count as points however getting to the high end of your grouping is caused by consitent violations. So yeah everyone might have a light out on occasion, but unless you have a light out every time they stop you you'll be fine. -
Seat belts are not primary.Tazz Thanks this. -
