I wouldn't worry about it too much. I would set the gain where is needs to be and take the truck and trailer that you were driving to a mechanic and have it checked out. IF there is NOTHING wrong with the braking of the trailer then I would take that proof and GO TO COURT and fight this ticket. If you can prove they work then don't let the Scales rip you off... Just an opinion.

What ever happened to this ticket? Did you fight it? Or just forget about it?

No need to stop at the banning scales if in a pickup(with bed). At least they had a sign up a little over two years ago. I'm guessing your break away didn't work. That's the first thing DOT is going to look for so they can put you out of service. And there going to pick on pickup trucks because it's easy.

glad i don't live in cali.

i have a chevy 3/4 ton bed for a trailer. with no brakes hooked up. a lot of people pull trailers with no brakes. course, they are usually light weight. we have no scales to go through and are usually not on the freeway. basically it's just around the city or to the dumps we are going.

the only trailers with brakes around here are the big trailer campers.

If they done a inspection and the inspector didn't tell you to fully power your
brakes as they were being tested, he didn't know what he was doing. My first claim to fight that would be a improperly trained or neglegent inspector.
If the breakawy wasn't working thats different and on some applications the key should be on to test. The best time to object to anything is at time it is done and before you sign that you received the report, but after the inspector has signed his name certifying he has performed the inpsection listed. This in itself states he is properly trained and done the job properly.
I have never seen one done properly and complete in five years. They like to impersonate someone working.

So what did you do? Was it the emergency breaking system or the brake controller and the wrong gain?
