Just wondering if anybody can shed some light on as to why this highway that runs between Bloomfield and Bernalillo isn't highlighted as a truck route in the rand Mcnally trucker atlas. It's a non-median, four-lane highway and plenty of trucks travel that road every day so I don't understand why it wouldn't be. I even went as far as talking to a New Mexico state patrolman and was told it was.
Another funny thing, since my company uses rand Mcnally for our routing, whenever we get routed through there and if we're coming from salt lake going to Laredo for example, instead of routing us on 550, they route us down highway 371 to I-40 in Thoreau from Shiprock. Not sure how many extra miles out of the way it is, but I know its definitely longer travel time.
US highway 550 in New Mexico.

Next time you run across there, stop at the casino and get yourself some red chili and fry bread. But don't tell me about it when you do. I might have to be jealous. Gooooood stuff.
corneileous Thanks this. -

Might try asking them. They could be using out of date info. -
There is no reason that US550 shouldn't be an STAA route. I guess NMDOT just hasn't bothered to officially designate it as such. It used to be a bad stretch of road back when it was 2 lanes and known as NM44 when it had one of the highest fatality rates in the US. I remember Stevens didn't want us running it back then.

Just ran through there last night but with all the snowy weather from Moab to Bloomfield, we didn't have time to stop so we got nothing to gloat about!........lol -
I find it hard to believe rand Mcnally is using out of date information but I've been wowed before. As I said, maybe they'll answer this time with a reason but if they don't, its no skin off my backside. I know trucks are allowed to use that highway so I'll keep using it regardless of what rand Mcnally's excuse is for not showing that highway as a truck route. -

I was trying to look up max lengths of NN or STAA roads but you should be good there as well. Who knows maybe Santa Fe just never got around to changing the designation after they widened it and renumbered it.(?)
You may not get anywhere. We have a road that is now a lake we dug to keep the tourists out of the neighborhood. Sent pictures to Maggellan, Tom Tom, Garmin, Rand McNally........
'Bout twice a month we see them driving in circles -
you'll find a LOT of roads not designated for trucks in the rand mcnally.
and you'll find a LOT of roads are designated and actually aren't.
i refunded my rand mcnally after 2 weeks. -
