We just delivered a load today and when they gave me the bill of lading, the girl told me "has some HAZMAT but doesn't require placards" ... I called my mom's cousin who's been a trucker for 10+ years and he said that this was legit to carry without a HAZMAT endorsement/placards... sometimes I care for a second (and sometimes a third and fourth) opinion though .... so can someone clear my confusion on this matter?

If it's under I think 2000 lbs it doesn't need a placard. Don't hold me to that number though. Someone will come along and correct me if I am wrong.

You should look in the handbook and figure it out. You're supposed to know that stuff if you have your hazmat endorsement. It's not 2000 lbs either.

I don't haul hazmat. So what is it smart ###? Or are you just going to make a stupid comment and run?

    1001 lbs requires a placard.

I'M THE ONE MAKING A STUPID COMMENT? If you don't haul hazmat then why are you even answering him? You could get someone in trouble. I don't run either. How stupid do you want me to make you feel right now?

HauntedSchizo19, mgfg and U2Exit Thank this.

I remember from the CDL permit test I took that if it is a HAZMAT load that doesn't require placards then you are OK to haul it with having a HAZMAT endorsement.

Yes that's right. There are also other situations where you do not need a pacard as well.

I thought that you had to know these things to get a HAZMAT endorsement?

    1. Read your shipping papers, know what you have. Know the name of the product, what is its hazard class is, and how much of it you have.

    2. Take that information and plug into the Table 1 and Table 2 requirements on your DOT chart 13. If its a Table 1 product, any amount of it will have to be placarded. If it's a Table 2 product, you must have 1,001 pounds of it before you put on placards.
