Dot physical ,bmi and neck measurments

Went to get my phsical renewed and passed everything, then the doctor said my bmi was to high and my neck was to big,so now i have to get a sleep test done.i know im overweight, but everything else was fine.i have heard of some companies that are not hiring drivers if their bmi is over 39.if the government keeps passing these kind of laws how many drivers are going to be without a job?

I've only hear rumors of this happening.
Though, it would not surprise me a bit given the heavy hand that the government uses to control us.

There's no "BMI" on the long form, you only need pass what's on the long form,UNLESS, you went to your company Doc. Now you could go to a walk-in clinic and start over.

I suppose but many companies today roll a "pre-hire physical" into the hiring process and you end up with a new medical card wether you needed one or not. Not sure about the legality but it would stand to reason that they could make you physical to their standards as often as you'd need a new medical card.

The whole sleep-apnia thing is a huge racket and carriers for whatever reason are falling right in line and allowing themselves to be fleeced of money because some government agency "recommended" they give it serious attention and give serious money to a select few "specialists". A thing that mankind has dealt with for centuries is all of the sudden threatening the lives of a quarter (or whatever the number is) of the drivers ... not the public at large, just drivers ... odd.

    It's not just drivers.

There is and has been a huge push for those machines. Hell twenty years ago they put my grandfather on one before a surgery. He never weighed over 175 in his whole life but often had horses outside his window when he left them open in the spring from his snoring.

However right now there is no regulation requiring a sleep study. It can be a company thing but it is not federal yet.

This is just the latest in the medical community scare games that go on. First it was red meat will kill you. Then salt will kill you. Then coffee will kill you. etc.

Now comes sleep apnea. The medical community, because they can make a profit from it, has determined that the majority of Americans have some form of sleep apnea. So they put you in a room, where you probably will not sleep comfortably anyway, and then it proves you have sleep apnea. All for the nice sum of over $1000. Then they get you sell you machines and supplies to keep the scam going.

That is why some Doc's doing DOT physicals have jumped on this bandwagon. But you can get ahead of the game somewhat by looking at

    http://www.safetyfirstsleepsolutions.com/

you can do the sleep study at home, in comfortable surroundings you are used to, for a lot less than going to some clinic and supporting the scam doctors. Then when the DOT doc says you need a sleep study, "I already had it done, now sign the form and shut up".

The DOT WILL be posting standards on this soon! This will become an issue, OOIDA has already spoken out against this.

i had a similar thing when i went to a company after being out of the country some years. to get my med card they made me take the apnea test. I then asked DOT they dont have any regulations on it or at least didnt in 2011. They said the companies all did their own. Its more company than government on this one. ANd that test is rigged youa re hooked up to wires and cant sleep well cause of everything. at least i couldnt and have heard others say the same thing. The only sleep apnea symptom i have is nightly urination. no snoring gasping for breath, or being sleepy the next day.
