We are driving a 26' straight truck from IL to AZ for a non profit customer of ours and our driver is concerned becasue there is no IFTA sticker on the truck. Since that company only uses the vehicle for their own needs and it is not for hire, does it need an IFTA sticker?

- Licensed over 26,000#
- weighing over 26,000#
- has 3 or more axles on the power unit
- is operated "In commerce"
A non profit company is a Private Carrier (not for hire) and is in commerce.ZippyD Thanks this. -
Doesn't gas or diesel also play into this ? Gas, no IFTA, right ?

Clarification...they are NOT "not for hire"...private carrier is correct term. "not for hire" is purely for a hobby type person where there is no money or commerce involved in the operation.
You would need to have IFTA registration for that truck to drive interstate...or your other option is to get a trip permit for each of the states you will be driving in. Assuming that since the truck doesn't have apportioned plates with IRP since they don't have IFTA, you would need a "combination" trip permit that covers registration and fuel tax.
For a first time run, I would recommended a permit service that covers all the state as no two states have a similar system for permits. -
According to the IFTA Articles of Agreement, a motor fuel is:
All motor fuels would be included in that definition.
