You could actually get a CDL without ever having a "CAR" license.

    X2...cuz I don't believe there is one.

There are some states that, I believe, require you to have a permit for X amount of time before you get your very first license, but that may also have to do with age (under 18?), so not sure.

As far as I know, the only difference between getting a Class C, B or A license is what you have to know/do to pass the test to get the higher Class. Class A can drive any Class lower provided they have the correct Endoresements (Passenger, for buses, or Motorcycle), but it doesn't work the other way around because not all Endorsements are allowed for certain classes (ie. You can't have HazMat endorsement or tanker endorsement on a Class C).

I believe your right. In Florida you can go without ever getting a permit and go straight to a class a cdl at the age of 18

You need a regular license before applying for a cdl.

But some COMANIES not states request you to have held a regular license a 1 year prior to training for a cdl.
