| Everyone with common sense knows that log books and HOS are not about safety, their about revenue. If safety was a concern and they only wanted to know what you had been doing and where you've been, you would be able to log it like you ran it with out any restrictions or violations. I've never used a log book to tell me when I can or can't drive. I gauge my driving time on how I feel and the areas in which I'm traveling in. Just because I have 11hrs of driving time does'nt mean that I'm going to drive for 11hrs. I may drive for 2hrs and go somewhere and go to sleep or sometimes I drive for 12 or 14hrs and I feel fine and keep driving until I start to feel tired. For a driver to stop driving just because a book says so is comical. You may be so tired that you can barely keep your eyes open, but you've still got 6hrs of driving time. Are you going to keep driving and risk getting into an accident or go somewhere and get some rest? The idiot will keep driving because his/her log book says that they have 6 more hours to drive. The responsible driver will stop and get some rest. So if I could change it, I would make it so that drivers could log it like they ran it without the threat of fines and violations. Drivers that are so iresponsible that they don't listen to their bodys or push themselves to the limit are not going to stop anyway book or no book, so thats why the only thing that they are good for is DOT revenue. |
