ISS-2 changed to ISS-D

Inspection Selection System (ISS-D) Recommendation*
(As of February 23, 2007)
Carrier Name: EPES TRANSPORT SYSTEM INC

US DOT #: 120195 MC #: 44128

INFORMATION CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE

The ISS-D monthly run evaluates carriers' recent inspections activity.
The ISS results are generated along with SafeStat on a monthly basis
and are posted on A&I Online.

I was looking up a company that has a local yard, and got this from SafeStat. Is this a change or something new.

Seems like there used to be a note in there saying sometimes they are auditing companies and info is not current or up to date.

This is something new. I was looking one up today and saw the same thing.

I did a little digging, and apparently the FMCSA is revamping their ISS calculating methods. The new "D" represents "decision".

For the moment, or at least I hope so, they will slowly be putting up numbers on carriers with current histories.

I suspect that the main reason why they are doing this, is because there have been many carriers slipping through this evaluation system by simply racking up horrible safety stats, then changing names and re-opening as a new carrier. Under the previous calculating formula, those with a low amount of roadside inspections appeared to have great safety stats, and began will low ISS scores.

Now the situation will be reversed. New companies will be assigned high numbers, and they will have to drive the ISS-D number down with each inspection that does not result in an out-of-service penalty.

The lowest number that a new company will be assigned, with zero inspections on record, will be 94-100, depending on the amount of trucks that the carrier has. The more trucks, the higher the initial evaluation. Each time they pass an inspection, and on a monthly basis, the ISS-D will fall.

Thanks for explaining that.. Now anyone who is thinking about a company may have a hard time making a decision until the numbers fall.

I'm going to watch that to see how it plays out...and if that's the case, it will just mean taking a quick look to see if they are a new entrant, which would tend to scare me off anyway, because new companies are not necessarily stable ones.

I have noticed that they have new assessments posted under the new criteria...My company dropped two points...to 21. Now we're even with UPS...oops....they dropped a point to 20.
