I need to do a split sleeper and in the US it's very confusing. I came in from a fresh reset, ran my 14 out, 10.5 driving. Can I do an 8 hr sleeper, then 5 hrs and do the other 2 hrs? I'm using eclipse on my lap top and it says no. I thought I could do 8 then I have 6 hrs before I need to do my other 2, then finish my day?
Split sleeper....

So pretty much, unless you had a 2 hour break somewhere, then the answer is No, you can't do that. -
if eclipse says you can't. then that's your answer right there.
it's not designed to let you do whatever you want. it's designed to keep you out of trouble.
if you take a 2 in your PREVIOUS shift. then take 8. your good to go. you can't take your 2 during your NEXT shift. so go back to bed and take a full 10. govt orders. -
That's what I'm doing. Very confusing. In Canada, if we haven't deferred 2 hrs from the previous day (13 in 16) we can take 8 and as long as we take another 2 hrs somewhere in our shift we are ok, and we don't have to take it at once we can do it in half hr incriments. Or defer it to the next day. We can't show over 13 hrs of driving in a 24 hr day tho. Much better IMHO

You're not just splitting the 11 hours driving time, but also splitting the 14 hour window as well. So if you used up the entire 14 as you stated, there's nothing to gain after an 8 hours sleeper break.
10.5 hours driving, (if you did have room on the 14 say) would only gain .5 hours driving after that 8 sleeper see.
On each side of the breaks (2 or 8 or 8 or 2, doesn't matter which comes first) the time has to add up to no more than 14 and 11 and 70 of course. -
I thought you couldn't do a split if you burned your entire 14 or if you didn't have hours coming back. I've never done one. I've always taken all 10 at once.

Thanks muchly folks, I assumed my eclipse wouldn't lie so I'm gonna be late to my drop by a couple hrs... Dispatch didn't tell me this delivery was so early when I called them Saturday, I told them I'd be in at lunch to get moving, should have been in at 8 am. It will be all my fault tho.

Since you're already late on the load I'm curious if you had 2 consecutive hours off duty on the day when you ran 10.5 and 14. And how many hours passed between the completion of the 2 consecutive hours and the end of your day.
