Thank you for your comment in regard to my accident.
I can tell you I wasn't "driving like I stole" it on 2 lane highway, you left out my quote of "open road, and not just flat land interstate driving".
In our conversation I read something about " there's no scientific method" to truck driving ?
I totally disagree, over the years it was called "The 5 C's" for defensive driving skills, today the new term "Managing your space", same principals, about being in control of your equipment, at all times, under all conditions.
A vehicle makes an unusual move in front of me, I keep myself an out, or simply slow down, abort the attempted pass, and give them a chance to settle down before making that pass to their left with a wake up..... flash high beam at night, a little air horn to let them know I'm going to pass, ie impaired driver, texting driver, or trying to read a qualcom driver, you know what I'm saying, it's not just limited to 4 wheelers out there.
I have no control of the motoring public, but I can stay the course and be prepared for ANYTHING.
Lane selection, knowing the road I'm traveling, respect for construction zones, and lane closures, are factored in my movement.
I've explained my term of "metro driving" previous I don't get upset when a vehicle changes lanes in front of me, I just "back off" I'm still roll'n, and regain my cushion that you say I give up. ( can't be hammer down in heavy expressway traffic)
I don't operate "bad equipment" I do my pretrip inspections, walk around inspections every time I stop.
That hood is open at every start of my day, to inspect all front axle components, tires, rims, steering shaft, power steering unit.
Drive tandem, and trailer tandem are inspected, I know what my expectations for braking, if it doesn't hold up to my standard it's taken care of by shop personal. (down shifting & jake brake reduce excessive brake wear)
I don't drive in fear, that's the term "drive like you stole it" comes from, not being intimidating to others, not attempting to multitask while driving.
No fear to operate, I'm prepared for the unexpected, I'm focused, I'm in control.
Driver my accident came from out of no where, westbound car crossed left of center traveling in the eastbound lane at me.
Slam on the foot brake, steer to avoid never entered my thought. (I drive tanker even if it wasn't tanker, NEVER steer to avoid if your in control)
3 1/2 hrs. into the investigation, the State of Ohio took me for a urine test.
My carrier took me to a hospital for a breathalyzer from the accident scene, they could have done ANY post accident drug test they wanted, it's THEIR CALL.
I'm of the opinion my CSA score was reviewed which the state choose the post accident drug test.
You drive a commercial truck for a living governed by the Fed's no illicit drugs in your system while on duty.
That's not going to change because states are making MJ legal.
(not saying YOUR trying to beat the system)
If drivers chooses to "roll the dice" and party on their time off with MJ, contact high, 1 puff or several puffs, it show's up in your system "after the fact" isn't isn't going to change anything, you tested "HOT" while your on duty, or from a random.
A law firm from Columbus sent me the state report of the accident, wanting to represent me for a law suit, I'm not at fault, "Urine test was given results unknown at this time".
It's been over 3 weeks since the head on crash, if I tested "hot" I'd know about it by now.

A quick note to those who typing in oversize fonts.
I'm not trying top pick on you - for all I know we could share an identical viewpoint. It's just for some reason I can't bring myself to read oversize posts - to me it registers as a little bit in-your-face, so my brain just skips them. Quite possibly I'm the only one with this reaction, so feel free to ignore me on this - I just thought I'd mention it.AfterShock Thanks this. -
Please go back and read my post again. I did indeed specifically quote you saying: "I drive like I stole it, when road conditions favor wide open driving, I'm not talking just flat land interstate."
And I think you and I have different definitions to the term "Drive it like you stole it".
But either way, it's not like we are cap locked... -
It's my choice to use a larger type, the information still read the same for this conversation. -
what's wrong with oversize fonts?

I for one feel if you have to use drugs, no matter if you think you are off duty or not and drive a truck - I like many others don't want you on the road or even to have CDL. This comes from experience of seeing idiots on the road who have done damage or hurt/killed people, and it is not an easy feeling to change or should be.oldslowchevy Thanks this. -
It isn't and it's not.
However, in spite of that, you're entitled to your opinion.
Can opinions ever be changed?
Is it worth the effort?
If one prefers to remain ignorant it's their right to be wrong, .... right?

The problem of people who can't control themselves?
The problem that this country and the world for that matter has had issues with drugs in the past as they have now?
Or is it that people don't think that being high equates to being drunk?
Or is it there are people who actually don't get the fact that there is long term effects to using drugs.
