Chantix, illegal for us?

I was poking around in some older threads and found one about trying to quit smoking, as I was reading through it I noticed that there was a little disagreement about the use of Chantix if you drive a truck.

We had been considering trying that route, but we certainly won't if its not legal.

Anyone know for certain? The thread I was reading through was a few years old, so it may be outdated information. Also, why is it not legal? I know next to nothing about that type of stuff, case and point being that I had no clue that a smoking cessation tool might be illegal for us to go on!

er...so according to that...they don't expressly prohibit it because they leave it up to the doc, BUT they think the docs shouldn't okay it..? How needlessly convoluted.

If you want to quit smoking without Chantix, the patch, or the gum, may I suggest "vaping". I smoked a pack and a half a day (2 and a half if I was drinking at night) for 30 years, tried a vapor e-cig (the newer, more powerful kinds) and haven't touched a cigarette since December 27th. They work.

"While we do not name any medications, such as Chantix, in FMCSA regulations, it appears that medical examiners should not certify a driver taking Chantix because the medication may adversely affect the driver's ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle."

That seems pretty clear to me.

I was taking it back a few years ago. I was happy with the results I was achieving but when I went to renew my Med card I got disqualified because of the Chantix. I had to go back to my Dr. and get a letter saying it was OK for me to quit to get certified by the company Dr. again. Royal Pain !

I'm a happy go lucky easy going person. I took that Chantix and had all kinds of suicidal thoughts. It didn't take me long to quit, Chantix that is. Cigarettes are safer!! :)

You talk about some weird dreams too. One I was riding a horse with no head. :biggrin_25523:

It's one of them 50/50 drugs. Some it works and the other 50 disappeared!
