Putting a driver out of service because he's a couple of hours behind, at this point is just stupid.

Some want to see the book immediately, like while you're sitting on the weighing platform. No catch up allowed. If it ain't perfect, you're getting a ticket. That's when you realize, it ain't about safety, it's about revenue.

I went through a roadside inspection a few months ago. The diesel cop didn't even ask to see the logbook. I didn't ask, but he volunteered that in his opinion, the logbook was joke, and full of lies. He said it took too much effort to catch a driver cheating during a roadside, and that the auditors could do more damage during an in-house audit.

They used to give you 15 minutes to get it up to date, but it is suppose to be current up to your last duty status. The fifteen minutes was to flag the stop and get your papers in order.

Now I like that cop . He said log department is better than him. He is right though, it's because we have all the documents to match against your logs. What he is though is lazy. I would not count on that happening to much.

Your logs should be current to your last duty status change.

Example If you take off driving # 3:00 am the time you took off should be drawn down/up to line 3 with the city & state in the remark section. If you stop anywhere you should have a notation in the remark section # what time you stopped.

That is because it is a need to know answer and you don't need to know!

You are right, I probably don't need to know the answer. I already know the answer some don't keep them up to date at all.

But I want to hear them and discuss it because it is your first step in getting by with no fines during an audit on the road. Many drivers I am finding are not doing this. I have more keeping their logs current like they should than not, but if I can reach one driver on this discussion it would be great for him/her.
