So can I! If the customer area is no good for overnight, I park as close as possible in another area and then use OFF DUTY DRIVING to move on over to the customer in the morning. Sure, that is not legit. But from what folks talk about they are doing on paper is no different and even worse. Like the "I don't have a qualcomm telling me I can't leave the heat". They are proud of what they are getting by with on paper, but will rip me about some little 2 mile jaunt I may do without having the elog go to driving line. The elogs are not all that bad once they are worked with and you find out how to use them in your favor. I never said I followed the regs like some anal buffoon. I only stated that I have no problem with elogs and I like them and I do think mandates are totally unnecessary.

Yeah, but the rate is variable on length of haul with the shorter hauls paying nicely more than the longer hauls. And the multi stops are nice with $75 for the 1st extra and $100 a stop for all the rest. Much better than just running around the country trying to beat the rush. I make more and net more doing the short stuff than I ever did running cross country. And I get a decent home life. Sure, not an every night at home gig, but a one to two nights per week and the weekends.

i make more on long hauls. i'm not spending so much time loading/unloading/finding loads.

the short hauls might pay a little better. but not when time is factored in. at the end of the month. my wallet is thicker on long hauls.

short haul, long haul. depends on your operation. and what area your running. i could see an o/o on his own but when your leased on. who wants to be calling the office every day???

someone on here posted not too long ago of a daily haul in texas. it was a short haul. but at the end of the week. would have only paid 2250.

today, i left san diego. couldn't find any decent truckstops within reach that were worth staying at. was going to bakersfield. so i headed that way.

got 6 hours left on my clock. only took me 4 hours last night to get down there. 8 hours to get back to where i left. i should be typing this on the side of the freeway in los angeles. waiting for my 10 to expire. if i had qc. i woulda had to stay down in san diego knowing full well i'm not going to make it. and using up a full day getting up here and loaded tomorrow. and spending another night in commiefornia.

los angeles traffic isn't something to mess around with on qualcomm. even the construction at night can screw you over. last night 5 was closed in 2 places. making for 2 detours. grapevine was closed to 1 lane. 5 mile backup wnen i rolled through.

i'm sure the 95 isn't no picnic either.

i wanna be in kingman before sunset. not spending another day in commiefornia tomorrow.

So you can plan when you show up for a load and it takes six hours to load? what about the other end when you show up and nobody knew you were coming and have to "fit you in" and takes five hours to offload??

That happens to me every week with EOBRs ill be forced to just wait it out at a customer for the rest of the time needed to get my 10 hours forcing me to drive all night!!

Ahh, the advantage of having a large portion of my stuff being drop and hook also. And the stuff I do have to live load/unload, is done at some pretty good customers who actually know that they are shipping or receiving stuff on my wagon. Today, I brought in a load of biolys (high lysine feed supplement) to a feed operation. Didn't even check in. Just pulled around, open the doors, backed into the dock and within 3 minutes a guy was rolling in to unload. Typical with most of my customers. That is the nice thing about doing a lot of bulk product type of loads. Then I rolled out of there in 30 minutes and ran over and did a drop and hook at another customer and will take it back to Nebraska (with an overnight stop off at the house) and drop and hook at that location. Probably will go all of 1/8 mile around the corner and pick up another load of biolys like my last load. Of the stuff they may take some time, I usually arrive the night before, and even if a 10 hr break isn't done when they start, it will usually be done by the time they are done with me at the dock and I start out again that day with a fresh 11. Most of my multi stops are by appointment and I am expected. So the short stuff really works for what I am doing. Occasionally, maybe once a month, I may get a customer that delays me, but they pay for it. No freebies for those that want to hold me up.

I realize that this is not the norm for a lot of folks. it took a lot of years and planning to get things down like this for what I am doing. It does take time to line up good customers. But it isn't like no one else can't do it. Leave the substandard customers to having only the substandard carriers doing their stuff. Those carriers and folks that want to do the same thing over and over like has been done in the past will have substantial problems as these idiotic things get mandated by the powers that be. Einstein said it nicely.... it is the height of insanity to continue to do the same thing and expect a different result.

ELOGS are like I said, for the guys that don't wanna work!!! Kinda like Obamanomics, lets punish the ones that wanna achieve more than most and give a little to the lazy. You can not plan what others, shipper, customer, traffic, etc... does to your time. Glad some like having a computer run their life but I hate it!!!!!!

Well, there is not such thing as a perfect world... with paper or e-logs. And true, there are some things that have a close relationship with Murphy's Law. But one can factor out a surprising amount of the things that can go wrong. And you would be right, some of us don't want to work hard anymore. I have enough irons in the fire and I have no real need to prove anything anymore, that the less I can do and still make a decent net is just fine with me. I have fallen into the work smarter not harder camp. I like having more of a life than just a truck. For those that have a love relationship with their truck, great. No grief from me. To me, a truck is the same as a crescent wrench.... a tool to get a job done. And e-logs just make the job even easier. With no degradation of the net in the end.

for you long haul o/o i can see where e logs could mess with your program. i do shift work with e logs and get paid by my logged in hours, i still do 60 hours every week and find that is still more than most people do and some weeks is more than i care to do. ............happy trails

Paper logs r the reason y I get as much home time as I get. With EOBR's there would b many nights where I would have to shut down somewhere close to home and sit in the truck and play with myself cuz it's 5 pm and I'm wide awake. Not to mention that if its summer I'm idling my truck cuz it's still hot outside unlike at night when it's much cooler and usually a breeze. I would never make it home with those stupid things. What a great feeling it would be to tell my daughter over the phone that once again daddy has to stay an hour away cuz the computer says I'm too tired to drive. No thanks. When they get mandated a lot of people will be spending hundreds to get them installed and I'll b spending a few bucks on a for sale sign
